Everything You Wanted to Know and More

November 21, 2017

We are officially at the 1 week mark. In just 7 days we move our store!

It really hadn't begun to sink in for me until Bob [from Ledoux Signs] came Friday to put the new logo up on the window. After weeks of hard work analyzing demographic data, doing market research, refining our brand commitment and pretending to be a graphic designer, I finally came up with something that felt like the right fit. Because I tend to be a perfectionist, I rarely feel really good about how something turns out; but I have to say, I really love the Simply Nourished logo. I can't help but smile when I drive past and see it enlarged on the front window of our new location. Side note: If you haven't found our new building yet, we are across from City Park [east side] just down from Fieldhouse at 18 N. 3rd Street.

This past weekend we were busy preparing the building for the move. We were able to finish the bathroom, get the tables and chairs positioned upstairs and put together the counters for the commercial kitchen area. I'm so thankful our kids are such good sports and have always been able to find things to do when we've had to work long hours. It is definitely an adventure having self-employed, small business owner parents. And our kids haven't been the only ones hanging on for the ride. We continue to feel the need to say thank you to all of our customers who have been so patient and understanding as we transition. We are trying our best to keep everyone up-to-date on what's happening and when. In the last week, especially, we've had lots of questions about the details, so I want to devote this post to answering the questions we've received because I'm sure there are others who are wondering as well.

When exactly are you closing at the current 107 S. 4th Street location?

Saturday, November 25th [Small Business Saturday] we will be open 10-2, our regular Saturday winter hours. This will be our last day of business at our current location. Stop in either Friday [11-4] or Saturday [10-2] for Customer Appreciation Days--complimentary refreshments and a chance to win a $200 Gift Package.

Do you have any inventory left to sell this week?

We do! We just received a large order from Coop Partners this morning and we have lots of Thanksgiving meal items available. Local and organic squash, carrots, onions, potatoes, salad blends and dressings, Brussel's sprouts, kale, apples, pears, and cranberries, just to name a few. We also have GF DF dinner rolls, croutons, pumpkin and apple pie from Down in the Valley Bakehouse in Minnesota. Plus, we still have a large selection of local meat and local eggs. Tomorrow we get in cheese curds, unhomogenized whole milk and pumpkin ice cream from Picket Fence Creamery, and we still have many of our usual products available in small quantities as well. I'm hoping that by 2pm Saturday that won't be the case :)

Will the store be open for Christmas by the Lake December 2nd?

The store will not be open. However, we will be doing a "Sneak Peek" event, selling warm drinks and sweet treats out in front of our new location [18 N. 3rd Street]. Stop by between 10 and 3 on Saturday, 12/2 to peek.

When will the store be open again then?

Saturday, 12/9 will be our first day of business inside the new store. We will be doing a holiday open house that day from 10-4 and our shelves will be fully stocked for that day. We will return to our regular winter hours the week of Wednesday, 12/13. [Winter weekday hours are 11-6 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.] Saturday 12/16 will be our second and final holiday open house of the season, again from 10-4. We will finally return to a full week of regular winter hours Wednesday 12/20 through Saturday 12/23.

Will you be expanding your inventory at all?

Yes! Over the course of the next 5 months we will be adding extra shelving units, another refrigeration unit and an additional freezer. We will continue to receive inventory from UNFI, Alberts Organics, Coop Partners, North Iowa Fresh and all of our current direct sale vendors and local producers. Plus, we are excited to announce that we have added an additional distributor from the East Coast. Garden Spot distributes some very unique products that fit perfectly into our Simply Nourished vision and we cannot wait to make them available here in North Iowa. Wellness within reach, that's our mission.

Is Simply Nourished a new business? What happened to BE WELLness?

No new business. Since its inception, BE WELLness has always been a holistic wellness cooperative existing for the purpose of promoting health and wellness, and for carrying out the specific mission of encouraging healthy, happy, pure and balanced living in North Iowa. BE WELLness now has 4 collaborative, yet distinct divisions:

Will Lauryn's Lunchbox be open at the new store?

We did renew our commercial food service license, so yes, Lauryn's Lunchbox will carry over to the new location. It will actually be the in-store brand for all prepared food made or packaged in our kitchen. We are taking the winter off-season months to work out all the details, but will most definitely keep you updated as newsworthy decisions are made.

I think that should answer most questions that have been circulating. However, feel free to contact us if you have any remaining questions. I can't wait to share pictures next Monday after we finish painting and get everything moved over. If you're a praying person, I'd love for you to join me in praying for the weather to cooperate November 27th. Have a great week friends.
